I was born in Kampala, Uganda and lived in Bukoba, Tanzania for the first ten years of my life. Fortunately, when I was 10 years old, I was given an opportunity to leave the Bukoba Secondary School and study in the UK. On arrival in the UK, I could not speak English and fought throughout my life in school and university. I found my natural strength in finance and graduated from Essex University with first class in BA (Hons) Accounting and Financial Management, 11 years after arriving in the UK. This journey made me stronger as human being and made me resilient, however also created certain behaviour traits and left some scars.
I secured a graduate role with BSkyB where I completed my professional CIMA qualifications and gained experience within several finance disciplines including treasury and cash management. In 1999, I moved on to manage the management accounts function at Harrods which subsequently led me into my first financial controller role at ntl (now Virgin Media) in 2000. I gained significant experience across many disciplines of finance and treasury, such as bank and bond financing, Chapter 11 bankruptcy and finance transformation. In 2005 I obtained my first Finance Director role with a PE environment at Affinion International. I have since continued to build upon my experience and develop new skills, including operations, HR, IT and procurement.
As COO/CFO at CEG I restructured, established, and managed a high performing motivated team after clearing legacy issues across people, processes and systems. I also arranged debt financing in excess of £1bn, including sustainability linked loans, and managed multiple investor relationships. I have also held several non-executive roles in the NGOs and the charity sector during my career.
In November 2022 I suffered a nervous breakdown as a result of burnout, stress and overworking. Experiencing this trauma forced me to confront myself and my life to date. I began to question why I had experienced this suffering, and the person I wanted to become as my life progressed. I concluded that I had been extremely lucky to leave Africa and move to the UK, and learnt that not all storms are here to disrupt your life, some come to clear show you your path.
These questions enabled me to go on a journey of self-realisation and connect with my conscience and inner soul. Understanding this allowed me to recognize the root causes of my breakdown and identify how specific behaviours in my life had led me to this position. I now understand what makes me happy and how this impacts what I wish to achieve throughout the rest of my life.
Throughout this difficult time, my family and Shiva held my hand. I would not be writing this if it were not for them. I am thankful for life every day.
I subsequently expanded my knowledge through reading, leading me to better understand both myself and the world around me. Specifically, I understood my love for Shiva during this period. Shiva reflects the perfection and certainty within each living being, allowing one to find their inner soul and truth. As an ardent devotee of Shiva, I now intend to practice, instead of listening to, the principle of truth. I now understand my purpose in this world.
My goal is to now serve humanity and nature in any way I can.
I am focused on those people who want to lead better lives or are struggling in life. I want to use my understanding of spirituality, my experience to date and my life journey to help individuals grow, in any way I can.
I believe the misuse of nature has had a significant negative impact on the environment, economy, and health for this world. It is time to nurture and restore nature, and I am keen to do my bit.
